| Poll
Survey Seminar |
| The
College of Arts and Sciences, in coordination with the
Research Center, spearheaded the POLL SURVEY SEMINAR
dubbed as "DWCL Public Poll" conducted last
October 15-26, 2007 at the DWCL Training Room. The resourch
speakers were Ms. Maria Paz Espiritu and Ms. Josephine
Cemine from the Holy Name University, Tagbilaran City.
Selected faculty accross colleges and office personnel
attended the said activity. This is a two-phase activity;
the next schedule will be held sometime in January 2008.
This project is a city-wide survey which will monitor
the opinions of the Legazpeños on a wide range
economic, political and social issues. This independent
polling body will also conduct a regular survey which
will be a valuable feedbacking mechanism for good gevernance. |

| Salu-Salu
sa Parokya |
The
High School Department was invited by the Chairman
of the Albay Fiesta and Special Events Committee to
be one of of the sponsors for this year's "Salu-Salu
sa Parokya" last September 3, 2007 in celebration
of the Feast of St. Gregory the Great. DWCL contributed
120 packs of ready-to-eat lunch for the less privileged
parishioners. |

| DWCL
Joins BRAPS and National Tourism Week |
| The
Psychology students, together with the CAS Dean and
the Program Adviser, attended the 2nd Bicol Regional
Association of Psychology Students (BRAPS) Convention
held at the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) last
Saturday, September 29, 2007. The activity was intended
to establish camaraderie among the psychology students
and make them aware of the activities and programs
of other schools within the region.
The
DWC Chorale & Dance Company were invited to perform
during the National Tourism Week conducted by the
Department of Tourism at the Peñaranda Park,
6:00 o'clock in the evening last September 27, 2007.
The Chorale rendered cultural songs, while the Dance
Company performed a repertoire of cultural dances. |

In
response to the program launched by the Provincial
Government of Albay dubbed as A2C2 (Albay in Action
on Climate Change) the College of Arts and Sciences
conducted an activity entitled "DUROS"
(Divinians Unting in Response to our Survival) last
September 25, 2007, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the
AV Hall. The said activity aims to make an aggressive
information campaign to help the DWCL community
become aware of the ill-effects of global warming
and what measures can be done to mitigate its negative
outcomes. It also aims to seek commitments from
the different sectors of the school as to what possible
plans of action can be done to address this growing
problem.

Lady of Lourdes Student Assistance Fund |
The
"Red Barnet", a Danish Organization in Denmark
donated a scholarship to 11 DWCL students who were
greatly affected by Typhoon Reming and thus can no
longer finish their studies. The following ar the
recipients:

This
assistance was named "Our Lady of Lourdes Student

| Forum-Workshop
on Problems of Children of OFW's and Workshop on Liturgy |
The
Cadbury's Organization, in coordination with the Guidance
and Testing Center of the High School Department,
sponsored a Forum-Workshop of the Nature of Problems
of Children of OFW's held at the High School Social
Hall last September 25, 2007. CEAL member schools
were invited to attend.
The
Campus Ministry Office conducted a one-day Workshop
on Liturgy to all the members of the DWCL Chorale
last September 15, 2007 at the Training Room. The
purpose of this activity is to help them strengthen
their faith through the liturgical knowledge of the
Eucharistic Celebration and to enhance camaraderie
among the choir members. |

1.
DWCL was chosen by CHED as venue for the pilot testing
developed by the Web Systems Development, Inc. entitled:
"Electronic Verification Certification System/Special
Order Application and Issuance System (EVCS/SOAIS)"
for the Commission on Higher Education. This activity
was held at the Computer Laboratory last September
1, 2007, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mrs. Purificacion
Huevos, Registrar and two IT Staff, Mr. Wenter Barruga
and Mr. Joseph Morco were required to attend for a
free training of the said program.
2.
The College of Arts and Sciences faculty, staff and
students participated in the Tree Planting activity
held simultaneously last September 8, 2007 at the
North Campus and in Mayon Centennial Forest, Sto.
Domingo, Albay. This activity is in coordination with
the NSTP regarding the project "Plant a Tree
for Mama Mary and the SVD's".
3.
One Korean student enrolled in the Intensive English
as a Second Language Program offered by the College
of Arts and Sciences to International Students went
back to Korea this month after a three-month study.
After she left, another Korean student enrolled to
study in the same program starting this month until
January next year.
4.
Mrs. Iris Prudence Peralta, Guidance Counselor of
the College Department was invited by the Albay Parole
and Probation Office as facilitator/speaker for the
Therapeutic Community Phase Session with topics on
Value Clarification and Self-Acceptance last September
20, 2007 at the Open Court, Trinity Baptist Church
and Seminary Compound, Brgy. 20, Rizal Street, Legazpi
City. |
